Code Red

There is no doubt fish like a bit of red here and there in fly patterns. Dating back to the early days of the English chalkstreams, anglers were adding a touch of red to their flies and at that time these were purely brown trout streams. 
My good friend Gretchen was the first to hook a fish on this design. The fish in question promtly swam around a log and she looked at me and said 
“This is a code red situation”. 
Right there the fly was named.
